I know!
This is a crazy picture to post for a writing journey. It should be a really cool typewriter or fancy pen poised over the page, shouldn’t it? There is a method to my madness. I know many others have said it, but this is in honor of my friend, Jim Rubart.
When people ask him what they should do if they have the urge to write a novel, he tells them to purchase the best pair of tennis shoes they can afford … and run as fast as they can in the other direction. Hah! But I guess I’m one of the crazy ones who didn’t.
I’ve always been interested in writing. I wrote short stories and loved helping my friend brainstorm and edit her novels. But, I never seriously thought about writing a novel myself until a few years ago.
I was a full-time caregiver for my dear husband. Because of the time constraints, I had to give up all my other creative pursuits. In November of 2016 I saw an ad for a novel writing class starting in January of 2017, and I thought, “I can do that.” I signed up for the class and scheduled a caregiver to stay with my husband on Friday mornings.
Little did I know that my husband would pass away one week before the class began. I channeled my grief into learning to write. I finished the class in May of 2017, went to the Rubart Writing Academy that Fall, and I’ve been attending classes and conferences, learning and growing in the craft ever since.
I started writing women’s fiction in the hope of sharing some of the wisdom I acquired while forged in the fire. I earned these white hairs!
My Current Work in Progress
What started out as a single story has now turned into a three-book series. The same characters but different journeys.
Book one follows Jenna, a twenty-nine year old prodigal who’s lost everything due to bad decisions and believes she’s too far gone to find her way back.
Book two features the story of Jenna’s roommate, Monica and her journey to wholeness after abuse.
Book three is still evolving, but features a character introduced in the first two books who struggles to overcome the temptation of sexual sin and find his true identity.
I hope that by sharing my stories, you will realize it’s never too late to turn your life around. That no matter how tough the circumstances, if you reach out to God, He will be there to help you straighten out the mess.
And if you need a little extra help… sign up for my newsletter and I’d love to pray for you.
Island Life
I love writing in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! A few years ago I was able to move back home. Not the location I’d lived all of my life, but the place that signified home to me.
My Dad was born in this little island town, my grandparents lived here, and my Aunts, Uncles and cousins on both sides of the family were nearby. We lived in the desert for thirty years, so coming back to my little island was a true gift from God. I never tire of watching eagles soar overhead, the occasional sightings of orcas, seals, and osprey. (We call them Seahawks!) Boats of all sizes, from kayaks to tankers. And being surrounded by mountains and water. I know that anyplace you call home is beautiful, but Island Life always holds a few unique surprises.
I’ll be sharing a few of those serendipitous moments with you along the way. Welcome to my Island Life.
Amazing and inspirational
Authors who touch the hearts of readers
I’ve met a few wonderful people on my writing journey. People who didn’t run in the other direction. People who answered the call and put in the hard work. People who changed our minds, changed our hearts, and changed our lives.
I would like to introduce you to a few of these wonderful people.
Enjoy! You’re welcome.
